Inform and Entertain

Information overload is a real problem in this day and age, and so when people are spending less time reading lengthy books, less time analyzing in-depth articles or investigative news reports and more time on short messaging and games, an effective way to put your point across might be to use infographics (graphs, illustrations, typography, charts) or even short video clips. One organization that has succeeded in doing this is the U.S. Entertainment Software Association who yet again published their 2009 report on the "Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry". If you can't bother to look at either one of them, here are its key findings:
  • 2008 sales: $11.7 billion
  • 68% of Americans play computer and video games 
  • 42% of Americans have a video game console
  • 35 is the age of the average game player
  • 40 is the age of the average frequent game player
  • The top selling computer game of 2008 (by units sold) was World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
  • 40% of game players are female 
  • 43% of online game players are female
